YOUTH OF TODAY HAS GOT A LOT TO SAY, OR DO WE

THE YOUTH OF TODAY

                                              

The Nigerian Youth, the supposed leaders of  tomorrow. The promise of leadership has been the driving force behind the most of us, the reasons for our submissions, compliance and to a reasonable extent complacence. But when would our tomorrow come. when would we assume the mantle of leadership. when is the tomorrow which we have so much longed for, a place and time to fulfill our dreams of yesteryear. A time when we would be in control and decide for ourselves and the generation that comes after us. After all the last generation has decided for us, shaped our destiny and molded our expectations. it would be a fair deal only when we also step into those shoes. 

But when would tomorrow come? Today? The truth is tomorrow never comes and today waits for nobody, not even the "Youths of Today" .Therefore the only thing left for us the youth of today to make today our tomorrow. 

one of the quickest things Nigerians do is to find extenuating circumstances for failure or non performance. The youth are not in anyway exempted from this worm that continues to eat us to rot. The truth is that the older generation of leaders that we have today did not give those extenuating circumstances, and it is the only reason they got there.

it is trite to hear the youth allege that the older generation has not allowed the youth to take charge of leadership. While this allegation may sound interesting, it is not completely true. 

The older generation assumed the mantle of leadership of this country during their tender age, they were youth like us and they performed wonderful feats. 

Every generation has its own opportunities and faced by its own challenges. The older generation achieved wonders in their youthful days but these were not served to them in a silver platter. They had their challenges. They had to confront the colonial masters. They strove so had and even when all odds seemed to have been against them, they fought the most important battle ever in this country; the battle for independence. 

Examples abound of what these generation of elders achieved in their hay days. Chief obafemi Awolowo formed the Action Group at the age of 38. Chief Nnamdi Aziekiwe became the first president at the age of 40. General Gowon became Nigerian Head of State at the age of 29. Pa Anthony Enahoro was the first to move a motion for the independence of Nigeria, he did so in his 30s.

How long do we want to continue to acquiesce even when responsibility stares right into our eyes. Today Nigeria has convoked a national talk to attempt to straighten out the future of our Nation, yet the  conference is beguiled by conflagration of the same old folks who fought for our independence. 

The social media today is awash with photos of sleeping delegates. The funny thing is that it is the youth of today who engage in sending those photos, yet we still remain unashamed of our selves; for our generations and the one coming by, these things are amusing to us. we always find a way to amuse ourselves even in the thick of National suffering "sufring and smiling" Fela called it.

This blog is a clarion call, a call to uprightness, servitude and responsibility. it is a call to wake the sleeping giants inside each and everyone of us. It is not a call to battle, but to an intellectual war. The struggle to liberate ourselves and assume the position we have long waited for, the position we deserve but has refused to desire due to our self serving lassitude. 

Time is nigh. Nigeria calls Obey.
